Little Green Kitchen

Little Green Kitchen specialises in vegetarian cuisine, offering cooking classes, food consulting, private chef and catering services. Little Green Kitchen was started by Shalu Asnani, a former lawyer and now a chef, cooking instructor, self-confessed foodie and advocate of all things healthy and sustainable. It's a platform for anyone wishing to subscribe to a healthier lifestyle and to get inspiration by attending one of her fabulous vegetarian cooking classes!

Shalu's foray into the world of professional cooking started a few years ago after relocating to Beijing. Born into a family of great cooks, Shalu was exposed to the art of vegetarian cooking at a young age and picked up many family secrets along the way, but is constantly reinventing her style to keep things fresh and modern. Her niche is healthy vegetarian food panning all styles - Asian street food to modern Western cuisine - and her goal is to disprove the myth that vegetarian food is boring.

After a successful teaching stint at The Hutong cooking school in Beijing, Shalu has introduced her creative style of teaching here. She teaches at Palate Sensations and at home, consults restaurants and individuals on creative vegetarian cuisine. Shalu also has a diploma in vegetarian cuisine from Cordon Vert Cookery School in the U.K which has given her an added dimension to her creative cooking skills.

Apart from cooking, her other passion is travelling which she combines with cooking by getting inspiration from eating exciting food around the world, and attending cooking classes overseas to broaden her repertoire. Shalu constantly brings new ideas to her classes and showcases a variety of dishes that are incredibly tasty. It's interesting and fun to experiment with vegetarian cuisine, and you can enjoy all the benefits of being healthy without compromising on taste!

Fun experience.

It was enriching & fun. Learnt many new stuffs too.

Learnt how Tofu can taste delicious

The trainer told us how to get the utensils and food ingredients from hardware and supermarkets.
We were given opportunities to hone our chopping skills, how to cook, how to present food.
The trainer was well prepared to provide zip-log bags to pack our cooked food. She was kind enough to let us use her toilet, and plates, to eat the food we cooked at her house.
She asked us how spicy we wanted our food to be, before helping us apportion the spicy ingredient.
The five-spice tofu and tamarind sauce tofu felt spicy initially, but I think it is an acquired taste as the more I ate the tofu pieces with these sauces, the tofu taste felt more flavourful. My tongue gradually got accustomed to the taste. Overall, the lesson encouraged me to try the recipes on my own.

Informative class with a tasty result!

Great class with only three people in it so felt that you got a lot of attention whilst preparing the dishes. Fulfilled my aim of learning how to cooking (at least one!) dish with tofu and learning about vegetarian alternatives to asians store cupboard staples. Would recommend to vegetarians and carnivores alike as these dishes just happened to be vegetarian and could easily be adapted if required. Shalu was very instructive and made the recipes seem very simple, I have already made them at home and happy to have added a few more skills to my repertoire.

Interesting

I learned a lot about Vietnamese food.

informative and serious

Many students came, because they were vegetarian. I found it useful in any case.
