Reading Attic

Attica was the region in which Athens was located. The adjective Attic thus describes things from that area of the world, including the language used by Socrates, Plato, Xenophon, Thucydides et al.

When thinking of modern houses, the same word is used to describe that part of the house immediately below the roof. This is because the type of architecture known as Attic was characterised by a design which creates a space we know as an attic.

Scratch the veneer of modernity and we still find so much of classical wisdom beneath! Imagine then, this space your private reading room, where we discover the classics, and its relevance to our world today.
