WHO WE ARE

The Fighting Fish Swim Program is one of the several sports offered through SASCSA (Singapore American School Community Sports & Activities).

We offer a comprehensive program consisting of a Learn-to-Swim Program, a Select Squads and a Competitive Team. Below is a brief description of each part of our program.

• Learn to Swim Sessions:
  • Provide the foundation for correct technique and skill set.
• Select Squads (1 & 2):
  • Builds on this foundation to further develop technique, stamina and endurance in all strokes (while still providing opportunities to compete).
• Competitive Team (Junior 1, 2, Senior 1 and 2 Squads):
  • Provide the opportunity for more disciplined squad training for the committed swimmer.

Most of our swimmers are students from Singapore American School (SAS) however we are by no means exclusive and have many swimmers in our program that do not attend SAS. We welcome all those that are interested in taking part in our program.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

We believe that through training and competitions swimmers develop an understanding of self-esteem, personal accountability, teamwork, self-discipline and goal setting.

The most important characteristic of becoming a successful swimmer is building a spirit for swimming. This spirit for swimming includes a positive attitude and a desire to attend lessons and training sessions.

The next priority is to learn correct stroke technique. There is NO substitute for having correct stroke technique. The longer someone swims incorrectly, the more difficult it becomes to change their habits. Swimming correctly means swimming smoothly and efficiently. Essentially we train to utilize the water’s resistance, and maximize the swimmers propulsive forces.

Throughout the swimming season we attend local and regional competitions where we continue to develop strong ties with other teams both locally and internationally that have a similar philosophy.

We strive towards total parental involvement during swim meets, special events and travelling with the team on away meets.
