D’Walking Museum is an interactive workshop that is the first of its kind in
Singapore. Through captivating stories and providing participants with the
opportunity to interact with rare, historical artefacts, it hopes to cultivate a
deeper appreciation of Singapore’s diverse cultures, traditions and practices.
Each workshop will be conducted in an informal setting. The trainer will present
each artefact and the story behind them based on historical periods like Straits
Settlements, Colonial Singapore, Japanese Occupation and Road to
Independence, with interesting snippets related to trade, lifestyle or politics such
as British rule, crown colony, merger with Malaysia, life during the Japanese
Occupation, PAP and stories on Lee Kuan Yew. It will also include some of
Singapore’s firsts in history.
Besides sharing his knowledge and experience as a collector, the trainer will
also ask stimulating questions such as “What do you notice about this artefact?”
or “How did it change people’s lives?”. Questions and answers will conclude the
workshop.
D’Walking Museum! will be a delightful experience for people from all walks of
life, and especially for educators seeking a supplementary course for their
students as the topics covered are relevant to MOE’s curriculum.
All artefacts used are from the private collection of Dan Teo, an avid arts and
history lover.
