Syk Concept consists of Singaporean artists Yao Khuan and Shane Ang, a partnership forged by a common vision to elevate the local creative scene into a machine of unique content generation. We believe Singapore has an untapped talent pool, one that could stand strong for itself.

Memorable and Positive Experience
I chanced upon the Sushi Watercolor Painting workshop on The Art Faculty Instagram and decided to sign up with my sister as we have an interest towards watercolor painting but with no prior experience in it. It turned up to be one of the best workshop experience that we ever attended.
The teacher, YK, was very patient and encouraging, and even extended by another hour so that we could finish our artwork. He went through the whole process of introducing the materials, guiding us step by step on sketching the sushi, and then finally on painting them with watercolor. He was very informative and constantly provided us with tips on improving our artwork, yet giving us a lot of opportunities to create our own distinct style. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment as it felt like a painting session with friends. We were also very satisfied with the end result!
We would highly recommend anyone with or without prior art experience to sign up for any workshops with YK and we would definitely attend more of them in the future.

Therapeutic, fun and enriching
My art exposure stopped at Sec 2 (if you even consider those art, lol) so basically I have 0 art exposure so to speak. YK was very patient and really tried his best to teach us. All our pieces turned out quite decent and mostly I think the experience was awesome. I personally continued with 2 more 1 to 1 lessons with him and I can say I've learnt so much more in these 3 lessons than 8 years of art class in school.

Mindful marbling!
I found this workshop so relaxing. The techniques were beautiful to watch evolve and when I let go of my perfectionist tendencies I found my own groove and really relaxed into this. Jeff is a great teacher who allows you to play with your own style. The workshop is conducted in a beautiful art studio and I loved how you learn the whole process step by step, from the preparation of the paper to the ironing of the final product. Have been thinking about how much I'd like to be marbling after a stressful day at work! Highly recommend this workshop. Thank you Jeff!

Relaxing and pleasant time
It was my first experience of painting watercolor in a while.
I was a bit nervous if I could paint a picture but all my worries were disappeared quickly.
The teacher kindly showed me how to paint and how colors with water make subtle difference on a paper.
I could learn a lot of tips and the time passed so fast.

Great class!
Went with a friend for the class and both of us found the class therapeutic and fun. The teacher was friendly and encouraging, and shared with us many watercolour tips. It was a great introduction to painting watercolour flowers. Thanks!

10/10!
My husband and I attended this class together and we both have no painting knowledge whatsoever, We learnt so much and had a lot of fun, and the paintings we created exceeded our expectations! :D Yao Khuan is knowledgeable, patient, flexible and encouraging - just an all-round great teacher. Really value for money as well, considering it's a 3 hour class and practically a personal lesson. Highly recommended!

Awesome
Yao Khuan is an excellent instructor for anyone who wants to try watercolour painting for the first time. He gives easy to follow instructions and helpful tips about the techniques used in this medium which are really great for a newbie like me. He is encouraging, patient and pleasant which makes the lesson enjoyable. He also extended the lesson way beyond two hours so that I can complete my art piece. I am so glad I attended his lesson and hope to attend another very soon.

Informative and enjoyable!
The lesson was very informative and helpful. Yaokhuan was very patient in explaining and guiding slowly through the process. He was also easygoing in interaction and communication so the lesson had been a relaxed and a fun experience. (Actually went overtime by an hour or so) Looking forward to learning more!

Relaxed and informative session
Instead of going directly into the techiques of water colour painting, Yao Khuan started off with the basics in introducing the materials to be used and sharing pointers on how the paints interacts with the water to create the shades and tones. I find that to be a very useful as understanding the fundamentals was key to creating any piece of work. He was very patient and encouraging and spent an extra hour so we can finish our pieces of work. Highly recommended for beginners or those who wished to further explore water colour painting.

Fun class!
It was a great experience. My friend and I enjoyed the class very much. It was my first time water colouring and YK was very patient. He taught the basic from which brush and paint to use. He is definitely knowledgeable and fun to learn from him :)

An excellent introduction to watercoloring
It was a very good introduction to water coloring as yao khuan was a very patient and also flexible teach er. He is very thorough in this explanation and helpful in guiding, flexible in his teaching methods customised base on our abilities. He was so focused on teaching us that time flew by so quickly and we didnt notice that we took up way too much of his time. Would definitely recommend him to my friends and anyone looking to pick up watercoloring!

An awesome lesson!
My friend and I do not have any experience in this area. Yet Yao Khuan was patient and guided us on the various brush strokes and how to paint using water colours. We had difficulties finishing our work within the lesson but Yao Khuan did not rush us. He ensured that we learned the strokes properly and the painting was completed before ending the lesson. Thumbs up! Highly recommended especially for people who are new to painting!

Patient & Friendly Instructor
Yaokuan was friendly and engaging in his lessons, i learnt alot of techniques in this class which was helpful in my watercolour painting! I did 2 lessons with him in 1 day and he even extended an hour's class for me so that we can complete our paintings. I love that he does the same artwork as i do in real time and we go through each and every step of it along the way. Thumbs up!

An enriching and theraputic experience !
This is a great starter course for anyone who wants to learn water color basics. Yao Khuan is an amazingly patient and talented teacher. He explained the basics in great detail about the setup, type of material to use, brush strokes and blending techniques. He also let me have more hands on and suggested improvements. I was lucky to be the only one student in the batch so got the complete personal attention :))
I must really appreciate that Yao Khuan extended the session by close to an hour. He did not rush though and guided patiently though all the steps.
Before joining the session I was apprehensive about whether I'll be able to paint again..but after this session I gained back confidence to explore and practice more water color painting and refine my skills.

The session was so fun and awesome!
My mum and I had such an enjoyable time at the watercolour session. Yao Khuan was an amazingly patient teacher and inserted a lot of jokes and laughter in between. Perfect for first timers or for those who are afraid to bring out their inner Van Gogh.

Great lesson that was fun and easy to follow
My fiancee and I had a really enjoyable lesson with Yao Khuan. He made the effort to ask us in advance what we would like to paint and suggested something that was suitable for us. His instructions were clear and he taught us all the basics of watercolour painting, which was helpful for us as this was our first time trying watercolour. It was also great that all the materials we needed were provided. The time really flew by and we had a wonderful learning experience. He was also just a really nice and amiable guy who's easy to talk to throughout the class. Highly recommended!

One of the best classes I've taken
Yaokhuan was very patient and and very clear in his teaching. He gave many detailed pointers that had never been given before in other workshops I've attended before. It was a trial lessons (as it was my 1st) and I'm very satisfied with the standard of teaching. Not rushed, like other workshops I've attended before. It was at a manageable and enjoyable pace. He will demonstrate and then then it's hands-on. He will then correct you as you go along. This is where I find out all the subtle things that I have overlooked! I will be signing up for more lessons!

Best workshop I've ever attended!
I have attended a couple of workshops in Singapore, and I am glad to say that Yao Khuan DOES NOT just draw and then ask you to give it a try. He looks at how you draw certain things, tells you what you did correct and wrong, and then REALLY teaches you how to draw certain part. He will explain to you EACH STROKES, which is not something every self-proclaim teacher does.
Yao Khuan was also really friendly, doesn't rush you (he actually extended the class by an hour omg), and his patience is a great virtue for a teacher! Art can be SO STRESSFUL when you're rushed. He also breaks the ice so quickly that you will not feel like it's the first time you see him! His explanation is always very clear and precise, and he definitely knows what he's doing, not just winging it.
I came out of the class really encouraged, and he actually piqued my interest in sketching! (I previously only wanted to learn because I know it was important, wasn't actually interested opps)
I am definitely going to learn more from him as a private student, because learning from him is actually very relaxed and stress-free. The fact that not only can he teach so well, helping me to bring home useful knowledge for the art medium, but also bringing home an art piece that I am proud of helped me decide that I want to learn at least sketching under him.

Fun and enjoyable activity!
Decided to bring my boyfriend for a watercolour class to celebrate our 2nd anniversary as I wanted to do something that both of us have not done before. It was an awesome experience! We were 15 mins late as we were rushing down from lunch and Yao Khuan was waiting patiently for us. He guided us to our seats and even prepared a cake for our anniversary! Which was not pre-planned and we were pleasantly surprised by his kind gesture. Yao Khuan is very patient and encouraging throughout the whole session. We had a lot of fun sketching, painting and chatting. It was easy to talk to him and he explained each step thoroughly. Overall, it was a worthwhile experience and I would recommend it to anyone who's looking for new things to try! :D

Yao Khuan was really patient throughout the entire lesson, especially since both of us had zero drawing and water colour background. He kindly accepted our special request to paint dim sum too! Great weekend therapy!
Drawing and painting seems like a daunting task but Yao Khuan was very encouraging. He was clear on the various watercolor techniques while guiding us throughout the session. Very patient although we exceed the expected time to finish up our artwork. Overall a great experience and recommended instructor! ;))

Fun and rewarding!
My Mom and I decided to try our hand at a water Color class with never having any sort of formal painting experience. We purchased the buddy Pax and loved the small group and individual direction we received. I never thought I had the ability to actually draw let alone paint a realistic flower. Our instructor Yao did a great job at teaching to draw which is possible for anyone and his instructions in water Color were great and applicable for all. He was pleasant paitiant and let's everyone discover their own style while feeling very accomplished in their work.

Highly recommended
We were expecting only to learn and get our hands on on watercolour painting but was surprised when we were required to draw our objects prior to painting. As a couple whose previous art classes were way back in secondary school, we were quite worried over our drawings. However, Yao Khuan managed to alleviate our concerns by patiently guiding and encouraging us in our drawings. We enjoyed how he deepens our understanding on perception, depth and angle in order to make our sushi drawing more real.
As for the watercolour part, he meticulously brought us through various techniques (i.e. bleeding, mixing colours, use of water) on our sushi.
All in all, it was an incredible experience seeing how our masterpieces turned out. This is indeed a good way to spend our weekends!

Sunday morning therapy!
Had an excellent class with YK! He was very clear, patient and encouraging throughout the class and enabled me to see my potential for portrait drawing! :) He taught me a little more in depth and very willingly extended the class to ensure that I was able to learn every thing I was supposed to. Pleasant customised drawing class
I was pleasantly surprised by the class given by Yao Khuan.
Unpretentious, he provides you what you are looking for, on his family's kitchen table.
We discussed what I wanted to learn, got into the heart of it. We had fun drawing portraits, adjusting where needed. I learned a lot, and got motivated to do more.
I would really recommend his classes.

An absolute fun class!
My friend and I have fun in the workshop. Yao Khuan was patient with us although we have very little experience with drawing and watercoloring. Every steps were easy to understand and with his advices, we have completed our masterpieces (after some touch up from the master ^_^'' )

An enriching way to spend the weekend!

Yao khuan is definitely a naturale when it comes to painting. We had a great time learning from him. Highly recommended!
For anyone without any painting experience, this class is for you! The teacher is very patient and he is willing to spend some time with students to go through some basic watercolour knowledge such as, the types of paper and brushes used for painting, blending of colours etc. He provided step-by-step guidance and all of us managed to complete a nice painting of our own!

Patient & helpful. Lovely experience.
I was glad to have signed up for the beginner's class and had much fun. Was a little worried that it might become stressful/awkward having a 1-1 lesson, but Yao Khuan was friendly and easy to talk to.
He answered all of my questions and shared with me things he found useful. And with the small class size, you get great feedback on the spot and this really helps learning. Having completed paintings during class is encouraging to beginners. If just we all started doing watercolors this way.

Very patient teacher and i highly recommend it!
First of all, a very friendly and kind person to interact with! It's stress-free and Yao Khuan really gave his undivided attention to you, gave awesome tips and advice. He is constantly guiding you step-by-step along the way, encouraging and we have so much fun painting together, so much so that I even forgot that I am actually taking lesson from him! Lastly, I couldn't believe that I could produce such work that are way better than what I have produced before.

I had a lot of fun learning watercolour!
I highly recommend the lesson. Yao Khuan was a patient teacher, and explains the concepts and techniques clearly. He was able to tailor the lesson according to the level of knowledge that I had. He also encouraged me to be hands-on and to just try out different things. Overall, it was a relaxed and enjoyable time of learning.

I shall review my Watercolor starter course here then!
Watercolor course begin right after my fundamentals of drawing class. (There was a short break in between where Yao Khuan offered me a snack hahaha) The 2 lessons were supposed to happen on separate but back to back days initially, (Sat, Sun) but Yao Khuan was really thoughtful and offered the chance to have both lessons at one go so I wouldn't have to travel back again the next day. (YAY)
As we spent extra time on the "fundamentals of drawing" session, I was worried that I would have insufficient time in my watercolor starter course as the previous lesson 'ate' into the time that was allocated for my watercolor course. However Yao Khuan was again generous to extend the lesson until I have gotten the gist of watercolor painting:))))
He let me play around with the brush pen so I can get use to how it sits in my hand and how I can control it more effectively.
I learned about negative spaces and how I should lightly sketch the outline of an object that I will be painting so that the pencil mark wouldn't show after going over with paint.
I remembered how I used to hate watercolor in Primary school as I had no idea how it works and how I should use it. I only knew that the color I intended will always turn out faded or 'smudged' and it is not as straightforward as how acrylic paints are.
I learned how to create gradients and smooth-transitioning shades of a color, blending techniques and the correct way of maneuvering the brush.
It was certainly a fruitful session where I learned basic watercolor techniques which will allow me to explore watercolor painting in a more "refined" way, creating pleasing artwork instead of awkward blotches of irregular and harsh colors that do not come together.

10/10: Stress-free, Ideal for beginners
Sorry for being late on the review had been really busy!
First of all, I was a little apprehensive about attending a small group (1-2 participant(s)) art lesson as I wasn't confident of producing anything aesthetically pleasing which stresses me out imagining being under scrutiny for an hour and a half.
However contrary to what I've expected, the session was carried out in a very relaxed atmosphere almost as if you're learning from a friend rather than an unacquainted instructor. Thanks to Yao Khuan who was exceptionally accommodating, patient in answering all my questions and encouraging, I sincerely enjoyed myself and picked up lots of drawing tips and techniques and expanded my "visual library".

First of all, I was a little apprehensive about attending a small group (1-2 participant(s)) art lesson as I wasn't confident of producing anything aesthetically pleasing which stresses me out imagining being under scrutiny for an hour and a half.
However contrary to what I've expected, the session was carried out in a very relaxed atmosphere almost as if you're learning from a friend rather than an unacquainted instructor. Thanks to Yao Khuan who was exceptionally accommodating, patient in answering all my questions and encouraging, I sincerely enjoyed myself and picked up lots of drawing tips and techniques and expanded my "visual library".

Strongly recommended~
I really enjoyed Yao Khuan's watercolour painting class. I've been to other art classes which were essentially supervised painting sessions, which isn't the best for a complete beginner. This lesson was pitched just right for someone who's never painted before - everything's laid out step-by-step, including what kind of brush to use, and how to hold it when painting. I'd highly recommend it.

Enjoyable and hands-on!
I thoroughly enjoyed the lesson. In 1.5 hours I got to learn about different techniques to painting basic watercolour paintings, and also got to try them out for myself. YK was able to help out and give advice as necessary. I'd strongly recommend the class :)

Knowledgeable and informative
That was my 1st time lesson attended into 1 to 1 class basis.
Yao Khuan is a young Guru who is very informative in arts and full with patience.

Patient instructor, short but enjoyable experience

Excellent, patient teacher!
Highly recommended! Yao Khuan is a very patient and professional teacher. The lesson was well structured and very informative. Also, even after the 1.5 hours was over, he continued to patiently answer my questions and correct my techniques.

Great class to learn how to paint with watercolour
I went with my friend, when it's supposed to be a 1 to 1 session, so Yao Khuan, our teacher, can guide you every step of the way XD
But Yao Khuan didn't take any short cuts, he extended the lesson by quite abit, and we got to do halloween greeting cards in addition to learning the basics with a flower painting. So we got 2! Although I don't know if people usually do 2 hah.
My friend found Yao Khuan to be a patient and approachable teacher, who is great for people who want to experience water colouring with a relaxed pace.

Very enjoyable and useful
The teacher was very patient and encouraging. I had many questions about watercolour painting and he could answer them. Overall, I'm very happy that I signed up for this lesson as I've learnt much more in a short span of time than struggling to learn through online videos. I feel that I can now explore watercolour painting by myself with more confidence.

Great class, patient teacher
I really enjoyed my watercolour class. The teacher was informative and patient, and taught me great techniques. He also introduced me to the materials that I need to paint on my own. Highly recommended!

Enjoyable and Good Experience
Very enjoyable lesson for me as i love to doodle but can never seem to be able to draw a decent drawing. Yao Khuan started with the basic and an hour plus into the lesson, i can't believe my drawings has vastly improved.
Maybe my starting base is low for a start, but now i believe with the proper guidance one can actually improve so much faster. The onus is now on me to constantly practice what i learn. High chance ill go back and take up more lessons from him.

An enjoyable class~
I went without much prior knowledge of arts & watercolor drawings, so I really appreciate the fundamental step-by-step guidances, tips & the small class size(it was a one-to-one lesson for my class date) which allowed me to ask any questions I wanted to. Teacher was friendly in welcoming; demostrative which helped alot in improving my understanding & encouraging as well.
Overall, it was a great class which I recommend to anyone interested in the lessons!
