FASHION MAKERSPACE is a co-operative, combining community, fashion design and dressmaking. We are an independent space for kids, teens and adults to pick up new skills, upgrade and sustain the love for creating clothing and accessories.

Our fun and interactive syllabus for kids introduce the little ones to fabric and sewing crafts, empowering kids to immerse in their creativity and bring their imaginations to life!

FASHION MAKERSPACE aspires to bring maker culture and craftsmen skills back into the designers’ hands. We want to provide a creative and supportive platform for fashion enthusiasts, designers and hobbyists.

Classes include Digital fashion design on CAD software, basic pattern-drafting and sewing techniques and family-centric workshops.

We offer production for your designs, costumes or uniforms. Mannequin customization or costume-mounting services are also available.

Fun Saturday.

The lesson was well paced for a beginners class. The instructor, Rachael, was friendly and helpful. The environment was pleasant too.

Fast-paced but Great Intro to Sewing Machine

A little fast for the inexperienced - you might find yourself struggling to sew in straight/round lines and keeping up with the class as there is quite a bit to take in for a first encounter with the sewing machine. However, you can also feel comfortable enough to raise questions or for help during class time so I will still recommend this to all who are interested to get started with the sewing machine :) One other thing: I wish more time/materials was given to experiment the tension/height of the stitch for the sew though...

very hands on and interesting!

full run through of all the useful tools in adobe illustrator which was very useful for a totally new beginner like myself. the session included hands on practice so it's easier to understand and remember the steps in utilizing the different techniques. thumbs up for this class!

concise content on fabric types

gained a good knowledge on fabric types and understanding how to identify them through various characteristics (and burn test).first lesson was mostly theory and experimental.
can't wait for lesson two to get my hands on sewing.

The instructor was very friendly and skillful.

It was very educative and a good class for first timer to domestic sewing machine. The instructor would attend to you individually should you have any inquiries. The after workshop tour to Chinatown to visit some fabric stores are very informative for beginners.

class was small which gives sufficient attention

The class was small which allows for the teacher to give proper attention to our progress.
the key features required to master basic photoshop were demonstrated and in class practice was also included to ensure we picked up the information correctly.

It'll help too though if the teacher could provide some concise notes on the most commonly used functions/shortcuts for students to recap at home. Thanks!

fantastic class

For $15, she made it sound like i paid $50. Fantastic class to go to, friendly guidance and great for first timers for sewing. Emma even walked thru with us on where to get threads, fabrics , totally love it and i am going for another one. Thanks for the fantastic class.

Fun and useful lesson

This lesson teaches the sewing machine basics and you get to have hands on sewing experience too. The instructor is very patient and approachable. She also gave us some insider tips during the introduction to the fabric market.

Enriching and enjoyable experience

The instructor was very clear and patient in explaining. She gave a lot analogy to help us understand the concepts. She was also very cheerful and encouraging during the workshop. Contents thought were succinct and adequate for basic level to explore on our own. Highly recommended!!!

The lady who taught the class was just LOVELY! Not only did I show up 20 minutes late, but I was also the worst student in the class, and throughout it all she managed to remain unbelievably patient and very encouraging. I would say that this class is geared towards slightly more advanced students, and I definitely struggled due to my lack of sewing experience. Despite that, I still learned a huge deal about hemming, enlarging necklines, enlarging armholes, etc... It was an incredibly useful class. I can't wait to put my new skills to the test!!

Fun & relaxation experience

Teacher very active and attentive

I enjoyed a lot being part of the class. The teacher is very extroverted and it was easy to follow her and be interested in what she is teaching.
She was always worried about all students, and if they had any doubts she would clarify immediately.
She also explained very well the various procedures on activating the machines, for beginners like us.
The tour to China town was also interesting because I personally get to know several shops related to sewing and that I didn't know that existed there.

Good learning new sweeing techniques

Teacher always available to clarify any doubts.
Good number of attendents so that the teacher could be free to go through our queries more efficiently
Since we ended the work earlier then the time to finish the class, the teacher was also available to teach some specific interests on sweeing changes that we had and were not previously foreseen for this specific class. She showed interest on doing this.

Worthwhile and good exposure

It was a very good lesson and exposure for me since I've never used a sewing machine before. We were taught the basics, e.g. various parts of a sewing machine, how to get started, and basic sewing technique. The teacher was friendly and approachable. The class size was just enough for the teacher to pay attention to everyone. My friends and I enjoyed it. It was worthwhile as we learned something new.

Very enjoyable

Trainer has good knowledge of the subject. As it is a small class, she is able to coach us individually. Very patient with our progress and willing to answer any question we might have. One possible area of improvement is to provide notes for the students.

A comfortable experience

I was anxious about my first machine sewing lesson but the instructor was very friendly. That put me alot at ease and the environment was non-threatening. Helpful for simple alteration

The lesson taught trimming, hemming seams and sewing buttons. The teacher was patient and there was sufficient time to demonstrate and practice what was taught. Good for those who just started to learn how to sew. My class had two young girls and they seemed to have fun in the lesson.

The lesson was very engaging and effective.

This lesson is good for beginners who want to learn the basics of using a sewing machine and its different parts. The intructor were very knowledgable and patient in teaching and assisting when you have difficulties or questions. However,the duration of the lesson was too short and rushing. A lively welcoming session for beginners

I had an enjoyable lesson with Fashion Makerspace. I like the cosy, bright and cool environment. It was very conducive for learners. Very good instruction on sewing machine

The instructor was friendly and knowledgeable. She gave clear instruction and demo on the use of the sewing machine. We got to practice on setting up the machine and sewing straight and curve lines. The trip to People's park was great, she pointed out a number of shops where we can get sewing supplies. I will sign up for the 102 class next.

Welcoming experience

The location was different from the Fashion 101 workshop that I attended but the new location is so much closer and accessible! The ladies at FMS were very friendly and the atmosphere was really cosy. The space is bigger but it can get a bit dimmer later in the night. For a 1.5 hr class, I learned a lot.

I really enjoyed the class & learned the basic on how to operate the sewing machine. Useful & Really fun class

The instructors are really friendly. This class is really useful for me as I'm in the midst of making decision to buy which kind of sewing machine. And there i got my answer. Basic and simple class

Having no experience with sewing machines, this was a great class to teach the basics of sewing. The Instructors were very friendly and helpful. The only problem I would have to say is the class was too short a duration! There was only time to teach us the Mechanics of the sewing machine, how to start it up and doing some straight and curved sewing on a piece of cloth. Overall, great class if you want to just know what the machine is and how to use it, definitely requires more classes to be able to sew together something.

It was definitely fun.
Teachers are engaging & very helpful.

It's great that it's a small class. We had only 4 students that night. Seem perfect with 1 teacher attached to 2 students. Hands-on be more focused that way too.

But seems like needed a longer duration or 2 sessions perhaps. Especially for beginners like me. :)

Informative, Friendly and Cheap!

The teachers were very friendly and helpful. I learnt more in this 1.5h than I could have by spending hours on the internet and it only comes at a cost of $10! I could have hands-on experience into using the sewing machine and visit to textile market was very fun too. I am definitely considering taking Sewing 201 at this centre

Lesson covers the functions of Illustrator tools

It was a great lesson to cover the different tools of Illustrator and I liked that there were exercises to do as practice, and that there were some handy tips shared. Hailey was my instructor and she was just lovely, encouraging and with a generous spirit. At 2.5 hours, the lesson went by fast. I definitely will check out the other lessons which Fashion Makerspace offers!

Good introduction to dressmaking

Thoroughly enjoyed this workshop - the three ladies from Fashion Makerspace were lovely and gave a good introduction to the process of apparel making. I also like that it was a hands-on session where we learnt and tried out sewing, and also went to People's Park to check out places to buy cloth and accessories.

Friendly Trainers + Enjoyable Lesson

Great to know there are sewing enthusiasts in SG

The lesson is great! But it's a pity that it's a little too short.
Would be good if they could hold such basic sewing lessons with longeer duration.
I don't mind paying a little extra for 2 or 3 more lessons.
The trainers are friendly and eager to share their experiences. Great to know these sewing hobbyist during the lessons.
Will visit them again if they have any new lessons in LWG.

Enjoyable and fun

It was an enjoyable session with Danlin and Sheeren. Although my friends and I felt the lesson could have been a little longer, we did manage to learn the basics of machine sewing. Worth attending!!!

Had a pleasant Sat morning =)

Enjoyed the lesson. Liked the class environment. Easy accessibility. Learned the very basics of sewing. Liked the short trip to see fabric shops. Overall, you gals made my day. Thank you. I feel inspired.

really good & basic intro class to machine sewing

instructors are very friendly and experienced. teaching style was very clear and good. there was no pressure when you do smtg wrong (other workshops don't really have a friendly instructor....). there was a mini tour at Chinatown market (People's Park) to show you where to buy fabric, buttons, etc.

the only drawback was that the class seems too short! but it's a $5 class, so don't expect too much. would definitely try their other classes like making our on bags... but be sure to have more practice with the machine on your own first!

Informative lesson which taught me little hacks

The lesson was fun and informative and we has a hands on experience on operating the machine and practicing some simple sewing techniques. The class size was alright. As there were 3 teachers to the class, the student to teacher ratio was adequate during the hands on and we could get help in no time. However, I thought it would have been better if the group size was reduced to 4 students per teacher during the demonstration and explanation of the machine.

fun and educational

A great introduction to using the sewing machine

Had a great introduction to using the sewing machine and got to know the friendly ladies behind Fashion Makerspace. Instructions given was clear and they shared little secrets about the fashion industry. Will be looking forward to joining them for other classes.

Exciting even for a non-sewing enthusiast!

It was an amazing experience as I had always been interested in sewing. I had my partner tag along, though not interested in sewing at first, by the end of the lesson, she asked me when will be going for the next one! I would like to highlight that the instructors were thorough, given the limited time, to ensure that everyone managed to sew properly! Though we had a little trouble finding the place, the overall experience was great and I would definitely recommend it to anyone is interested in sewing or, just want to have a fun experience! :)

The three pretty ladies who conduct the course are very friendly and make all of us very comfortable. Even though i have no experience with sewing at all, after the course i was able to use the machine

Inspiring!

The lesson was inspiring. Makes me want to keep learning more & this is one of the motivations for me to continue the flame! Loved the lesson. It wasn't dry because the trainers are friendly and also funny. Also, it was educational and really fun! Hopefully the lesson would be longer as i couldn't finish all of the stitches within the lesson period.
