Mariko was trained as a book and paper conservator at the West Dean College, UK. Her passion for bookbinding and book conservation started more than ten years ago and it led her to Edinburgh to study Book History and Traditional British Bookbinding Techniques. After two years in Edinburgh, she arrived in West Dean College where she spent two years learning book and paper conservation. Since she came to Singapore in 2013, apart from her conservation work, she has continued to keep up with her skills and passion by making new books for friends, family and her own bookshelves.

Gratifying learning process

Mariko is a very experienced and patient teacher and uses the best materials for the book binding class. It was a great experience and now I have a really beautiful book for my drawings.

A lovely way to spend Sunday learning the intricacies of bookbinding from Mariko, whose wealth of experience we benefited from. Besides her step-by-step approach, I like the snippets of information she included about book arts. It required the skills at masterclass level but wasn't intimidating for first-timers, as Mariko's patience and good humour provided a conducive learning environment.

Friendly instructor, nice pace for beginners

The pace and duration of the lesson was good for beginners like myself. Friendly instructor who was generous with her feedback and useful tips.

Good Introductory Course

Course was extremely fun. We were given a good introduction to brush strokes with templates, and got to bring home our handwritten work. Very reasonably priced as well.

Kids enjoyed it greatly and learned a lot.
