Who is this workshop for?We welcome both actors and non-actors who want to go to the next level of improvisation and storytelling techniques.
Minimum age for admission is 16 and above.
Pre-requisites?
Having already been initiated to the basics of improv or have attended the Comedic Improvisation (Introduction) workshop.
How does Improv help in my life or work?
Improv will help you to understand what people want and how they want it. Basically, it will show you how to satisfy any kind of audience. To do that, we will work step by step on how to overcome your fear of improv so you can be quicker on your feet and have fun on stage.
With a focus on storytelling, the purpose of this course is to make the students proficient in the art of improvising short and long scenes within the format of their choice.
Every lesson will be structured in three parts:
- A brief introduction of the concepts that will be studied and what will be expected of the students in each exercise.
- Warm-Up
- Exercises – most of which will be systematically debriefed.
The course is essentially focused on Keith Johnstone style of improv and on understanding the codes of genres. The genres that will be explored include action, drama, romantic comedy, spy movie, absurd theatre, Tennessee Williams, Shakespeare, etc. It will also give the students some storytelling tools like the hero’s journey or the three-act structure.
Through the study of the Johnstone system, you will be able to understand how to create a story and keep the interest for the audience. Also, you will get to prepare for a full directed show called the Maestro. By the end of the course, the improvisers will be completely able to play a Maestro in front of an audience which will be the final result of the course.

Q: Why do I need to pay immediately?
A: We require that you pay for the lesson in full before you are issued an email confirmation of your booking for the lessons. Q: What happens after I've made payment?

Q: What happens if I pay for a lesson and the lesson provider cancels or doesn't respond?

Q: My friend/girlfriend/boyfriend/family member wishes to attend the lesson as well, can I book for them too?
A: Yes! Learning is always an experience best shared. It's also a great activity to bond over! If you have others who are interested in attending the lesson as well, simply book the appropriate number of slots for the lesson and they can accompany you. Book fast though! Most lessons only have a limited number of slots available and if you aren't fast enough, you might not be able to secure the slots for them!

Instructor
Prescott Gaylord is the former Artistic Director of the Baltimore Improv Group, and creator of ‘Unscripted – an improvised play in two acts,’ a show that has enjoyed sold out runs in Baltimore over the past 9 years. He has directed large and small scale improvised projects in several cities in the US including, ‘Skinesthesia – Body Painted Improv’, ‘The Movement’ (with modern dance troupe “The Collective”), and ‘Secrets’ (improvised storytelling and secret sharing). He has performed in and directed shows in improv festivals in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Bethlehem, Washington DC, Austin, New York, Shanghai, Manila, Singapore, and Chicago. Before escaping to Singapore, Prescott was a performing member of Lekker, and Evan the Loyal (in which he performed fully wordless sets from time to time). He now performs with Singapore troupes The Latecomers and NotOK.
